Primitive Rustic Metal Table Lamp

20 Mar

This unique table lamp is made from an old upcycled thick metal blade yard rack. While nothing historically, significant, this piece has been around for at least 30 years out at my parent’s property. I remember using it as a kid…I recently found it rusting away in the weeds out by the woods. It has such as cool look and design, I thought it would be the perfect candidate to upcycle into a cool decorative lamp. The finned blades are all fairly heavy steel with a nice rusty patina finish. The wooden handle and rotted away long ago, so I cut off the attachments and used those as legs to stabilize the piece so it stands vertically.

Has a nice rustic, industrial and almost art deco inspired appeal. It was then wired up using some vintage reproduction black twisted cloth covered wire with an inline switch and vintage style plug. It uses a vintage tube style 30 watt bulb which fits the vertical style of the light and puts out a nice warm glow. Should you require more light, you can replace with any standard base bulb.

Very cool piece and makes a great addition to your farmhouse, cottage, living room or office.

Dimensions: Approximately 14″ high x 6″ wide, base is approximately 12″ wideIMG_6254 IMG_6257 IMG_6259 IMG_6261

Embrace the Culture Festival

19 Sep

We had a great time last weekend at the ETC Festival in downtown Norfolk. Had a great response to our stuff and met a lot of really cool like minded people, but vendors and customers alike. We also wanted to thank John Vellines, Chris Rice and the Festevents staff for the hospitality. We can’t wait to do it again next year. Here are a few photos Jessica took at the event.

Hand Painted Wedding Invitations

15 Aug

We try to be pretty well rounded around here and not focus too hard on any one particular thing. I’m also an art director / graphic designer by trade. That’s my “real” job, anyway. After 13 years or so, it’s easy to get bored with it. That’s what prompted us to start Oh! Glory Vintage in the first place. We both needed another “creative outlet” if you will, and a way to make a little extra money at the same time. After sitting at a computer all day, it’s usually the last thing I want to do when I get home. But anyway, our good friends are getting married next month and asked if I’d mind doing their wedding invitations. No big deal usually. Then she showed me what she wanted and it was a totally different style than I’m used to doing. They’re having the ceremony on a farm up in the mountains of Virginia, inside an old dairy barn and wanted a “whimsical, folk art style” – Jessica’s words, not mine – design for the invites. Anyway, this is what I came up with. All hand painted in acrylic paint and then type set on one of those computer machines. Pretty happy with how they turned out, and most importantly the bride was happy!

Repurposed Crouse Hinds Industrial Cage Table Lamp

12 Aug

Industrial, machine age, steampunk style hand made table lamp. This is a one off lamp, made from a vintage Crouse Hinds industrial explosion proof light cage from the 1930s-40s. Original galvanized steel cage with original glass. Very well built. Glass globe threads into base, cage threads into base then secures with a set screw.

Lamp base was made from a piece of 2″ thick reclaimed wood, stained with a dark “Kona” stain, and sealed with a matte finish varnish. 3/8″ steel rods support the lamp and were painted with a galvanizing finish to match the cage and then clear coated.

All lamp internals and wiring are brand new. New pull cord lamp socket is mounted inside and the lamp is wired with vintage style black twisted cloth covered wire and new two prong plug. Antique reproduction Marconi bulb is included, to finish off the vintage style, but lamp accepts any standard base light bulb.

Dimensions:
22″ overall height
6.75″ square base
4.75″ diameter x 9″h cage

Vintage GE Oscillating 12in Desk Fan – 1930s

9 Apr

Vintage General Electric Oscillating 12″ Desk fan with aluminum blades. GE referred to this model as the “Quiet Blade” premium fan. This model was produced from 1932-34. It has 3 speeds, oscillates and is in good working condition. This fan is in all original condition and has not been restored. The aluminum blades are in great shape for its age and the base has nice patina. The only part that is not original is the power cord which had been replaced at some point. This fan is built extremely well and works great. Makes a great functional display piece. Can also be mounted to the wall.

$85. Just added to our Etsy shop.
